Red-tailed Hawk
There’s not much cooler than looking up and watching a bird of prey drift effortlessly above, tracing wide circles against the sky. Dad and I saw this guy while hanging out at the Logan Shooting Range in Montana. Wide open area, so it’s great for looking for antelope (who sometimes wander right ONTO the gun range, and don’t seem bothered by all the shooting!), and a bunch of swallows and songbirds. Then we saw this red-tail, and I notice he/she had something in it’s claws. Wasn’t until I zoomed in once I’d taken the shot that I saw it was a snake, with apparently it’s head ripped off. At least it didn’t have to worry about vertigo… :O}
